Angel is a computational biologist who specializes in drug design, cheminformatics, and structural bioinformatics. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Drug Design from the University of Groningen (RUG), a second Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and an M.Sc. in Biochemical Sciences from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), Mexico. His diverse background has focused on the application of computational tools to better understand complex biological systems and advance therapeutic discovery. After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), where he created MicrobeRX, a computational tool for predicting xenobiotic metabolism by humans and the gut microbiome using genome-scale metabolic models and cheminformatics. Providing important insights into how humans and gut microbes metabolize drugs. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) and the Institute of Biology Leiden (IBL), working on the computer-aided design of novel Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) inhibitors as potential cancer treatments.
