Amir A. Zadpoor is a Professor of Orthopedics with special interest in orthopedic implants at the Department of Orthopaedics of Leiden University Medical Center. At Delft University of Technology, Amir Zadpoor is Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Distinguished Professor, the Chaired Professor of Biomaterials & Tissue Biomechanics, and the founding director of the Additive Manufacturing Laboratory. Prevention and treatment of implant-associated infections

Amir’s research at LUMC is focused on prevention and treatment of implant-associated infections as well as the design and fabrication (e.g. 3D printing) of (patient-specific) implants aimed for treatment of large bony defects. In particular, he specializes in development of advanced additive manufacturing techniques for fabrication of metamaterials with unprecedented properties. Moreover, he is a world recognized expert in origami- and kirigami-based (bio)materials that are made by combining shape-shifting with additive manufacturing.

Academic career

Prof. Zadpoor obtained his PhD (cum laude) from Delft University of Technology in 2010 and started his career at the same university as Assistant Professor (2010) and later as Associate Professor (2014) and Professor (2017). Since 2020, he has been also appointed as professor at LUMC.
