Alfred van Staden has been Professor of International Relations at Leiden University since 1980.
Alfred van Staden (1942), earned his doctor's degree in political science at the University of Amsterdam, and is since 1980 professor of international relations at Leiden University. From 1995 till 2005 he served as the director of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael (The Hague).
He has published extensively in the field of international security, European integration, and foreign policy. The focus of his current research efforts is on the interaction of international politics and international law.
He is a member of the (Dutch government)Advisory Council on International Affairs, chairman of the Netherlands Society for International Affairs, and member of several international advisory bodies.
