Aart Hendriks is Professor of Health Law at Leiden University, substitute judge at the District Court of Rotterdam, chair of the Amsterdam Mental Health Complaints Committee, head teacher of the Grotius Academy (health law) and Member of the Amsterdam Regional Disciplinary Health Court. He obtained his PhD from Amsterdam University on a dissertation concerning the right of persons with disabilities to equal access in the employment market.

Hendriks has written more than 1500 academic publications on such issues as human rights, minority rights, patients’ rights and non-discrimination law. He lectures at such institutes as the European Law Academy (Trier, Germany), Istanbul University, Thammasat University (Bangkok, Thailand) and Copenhagen University/the Danish Institute for Human Rights. Hendriks has successfully supervised seven Ph.D. students.
