Institute of Biology Leiden
Partner Institutes
The IBL represents the core of modern biological research at Leiden and we interact closely with the other life science Partner Institutes in the faculty:
Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC)
The LIC includes research in Chemistry and Life Sciences. Our environment and quality of life is largely determined by chemistry, so teaching and research at the forefront of molecular and life sciences is of great importance for our future.
The Leiden Advanced Centre for Drug Research (LACDR)
The LACDR is one of the leading academic centres in the world in advancing innovative drug research, developing knowledge and expertise crucial for drug discovery, evaluation and (clinical) application. This also involves the fundamental understanding of efficacy and safety of drugs.
Institute for Environmental Sciences (CML)
The Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) is a centre for research and education in the multidisciplinary field of sustainable management of natural resources, environmental quality and biodiversity. There are two research departments: Conservation Biology and Industrial Ecology.
Plant BioDynamics Laboratory (PBDL)
The Plant BioDynamics Laboratory (PBDL) is a laboratory dedicated to experiments designed to develop and validate quantitative mathematical models of dynamical processes in biology. The principal objective of developing these models is to make quantitative predictions about these processes.
National Centre for Biodiversity (NCB-Naturalis)
NCB Naturalis is dedicated to reconstructing and understanding the Tree of Life, educating people about our natural world and raising awareness about sustainable use of living resources. The NCB is also home to the former National Herbarium of the Netherlands (NHN).
Hortus botanicus Leiden
The Hortus Botanicus Leiden is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands. It harbours a large collection of plants native to Asia, Africa and Europe. The Hortus Botanicus provides unique teaching and study opportunities on the diversity of plants in the world.
Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC)
LUMC is a modern university medical centre for research, instruction and patient care with a high quality profile and a strong scientific orientation. Its unique research practice, ranging from pure fundamental medical research to applied clinical research, places LUMC among the world top.
Leiden University-European Centre for Chinese Medicine and Natural Compounds (LUECCM)
The Leiden University-European Center for Chinese Medicine and Natural Compounds (LUECCM) is a virtual research Centre bringing together research projects of many different researchers from different origin.
