Patient Remote Monitoring in Chronic Inflammatory Skin Diseases

Chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis affect both the physical and psychological well-being of millions of patients, leading to persistent symptoms like itchiness and sleeplessness. These conditions often result in decreased productivity and quality of life overall, underscoring the insufficiency of current dermatological treatments and highlighting the need for more personalized disease management.

Despite advances in technology, the application of digital tools in dermatology remains limited. This project aims to bridge that gap by using non-invasive tools for remote patient monitoring. By integrating passive monitoring, such as wearable devices that automatically track sleep data and scratching activity, with active methods such as smartphone apps for imaging skin lesions and digital questionnaires like electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO). By analyzing these images using AI tools, we hope to achieve more accurate assessments of skin conditions suitable for clinical trials. Our objectives include validating these tools, reduce hospital visits and increasing patient participation in clinical trials by making them more accessible and less burdensome. This Patient-Centric approach aspires to improve the quality of life for patients with chronic inflammatory skin diseases. This project encourages patients to actively participate in their own care. This creates a more personalized treatment plan, improves symptoms management, and deepens our understanding of these skin conditions.
