While schools are primarily intended to provide education, they also play an important role in social development. However, children and adolescents with disabilities (e.g., hearing loss, autism) are often among the most vulnerable groups in the current education system
Modern sensing technologies (e.g., wearable RFID sensors) allow the collection of detailed data on their interactions with peers. Such data helps understand the underlying factors influencing social behaviour. This project aims to enhance social inclusion through developing methods and analytical tools for understanding and reasoning about such phenomena based on sensor data.
The project was successfully wrapped up in December 2024 with the PhD defence of Maedeh Nasri. A follow-up project funded by NWO is continuing on this research line.
