High-throughput holistic preclinical screens are increasingly used in drug discovery, to assess both drug efficacy and drug safety.

Within these screens, characterized by small sample volumes, knowledge on the pharmacokinetics and drug exposure is limited. Information on exposure is however vital for the establishment of a concentration-effect relationship and for interspecies scaling.
The objective of this project is to integrate state-of-the-art techniques like ultrasensitive LCMS, and non-linear mixed effects modelling, to characterize drug disposition through various pathways in species used in high-throughput screens. This project is a collaboration between the Systems Pharmacology cluster of the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR), and the Institute of Biology Leiden (IBL).
