Research project
Biological indicators for sustainable forest management, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The impossible made possible?
What is vegetation structure and composition in SFM primary forest, secondary logged over forest (logging FSC certified and logging non certified) in comparison to primary forest? What is avian guild diversity in SFM primary forest, secondary logged over forest (logging FSC certified and logging non certified) in comparison to primary forest?

Short abstract
The aims of this study is to investigate if Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) by Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification is an effective strategy for conserving biodiversity in tropical forests of Kalimantan.
Project description
Analysis a study of plant diversity: Structure, composition and diversity of plant communities in FSC-certified, selectively logged forests of different ages compared to primary rain forest, in the primary forest and selectively logged forest (logged certified) in lowland parts of the PT. Inhutani and PT. Hutansanggam Labanan Lestari (PT.HLL), in the district of Berau.
Focuses on the first basic question of the thesis: Plant communities in FSC-certified, selectively logged forests of different ages compared to primary rain forest in relation to stem diameter and plant functional types, in the primary forest and selectively logged forest (logged certified) in lowland parts of the PT. Inhutani and PT. Hutansanggam Labanan Lestari (PT.HLL), in the district of Berau.
Focuses on the second question of the thesis: Response of avian communities to FSC-certified logging of different ages in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, in the primary forest and selectively logged forest in lowland parts of the PT. Inhutani and PT. Hutansanggam Labanan Lestari (PT.HLL), in the district of Berau, in the primary forest in Sungai Wain protected forest, in the district of Balikpapan and ex logging concession in PUSREHUT forest, in the district of Kutai Kartanegara.
Explores changes in the context of both: plant and bird species richness, habitat structure and community similarity in selectively logged forests of different ages compared to primary forest. in the primary forest and selectively logged forest in lowland parts of the PT. Inhutani and PT. Hutansanggam Labanan Lestari (PT.HLL), in the district of Berau, in the primary forest of Sungai Wain protected forest, in the district of Balikpapan and in ex logging concession in PUSREHUT forest, in the district of Kutai Kartanegara.
