Based in Leiden’s Institute for History, the CHEI’s aims are to:

  • connect researchers working in the field of the history of European integration. Our reach is wide, drawing together scholars in the Institute for History, Leiden University more generally, those elsewhere in the Netherlands, and those based internationally;
  • enhance the study into the EU while also engaging in debates over the de-centring of the EU by placing it within a broader historical context, including research on external cooperation, imperial legacies, and comparative processes;
  • provide a platform for scholars with shared expertise to discuss, disseminate and strengthen their research in these areas.

Those interested in the work of the CHEI and in participating in the Centre’s activities, such as the CHEI Seminar Series, are very welcome to contact Matthew Broad, the Coordinator of the CHEI, for more details.
