Research project
Pre-colonial exploitation of neotropical fauna
Dennis C. Nieweg finished his MA thesis in 2000 on “Shells in archaeology”
Currently he is working as a Curator of Natural History at Museum TwentseWelle, Enschede. His PhD research focuses on faunal assemblages from archaeological sites to determine the diachronic development of the pre-colonial cultural and natural environment in the circum-Caribbean region. Next to (zoo-)archaeological data, evidence from ecology, physiography, ethnohistory and ethnography will be used in a multi-disciplinary approach.
