Improving opinion poll reporting: the Irish Polling Indicator

Opinion polls increasingly shape election campaigns. Also in Ireland where, since 2011, an average of just over two opinion polls per month has been published, receiving considerable attention in newspapers and on television. The pollsters, however, use different approaches and are therefore likely to report differing results, not just due to random sampling error, but also because of design choices. Aggregating the information from different polls is a challenge, but it offers opportunities for better opinion poll coverage in the media.
