On 18 May 2011, Dr. Ben Knapen, Minister for European Affairs and International Cooperation, delivered the annual Van Vollenhoven Lecture on “Rule of Law and Development”.

The Van Vollenhoven lectures are organized in honor of Cornelis van Vollenhoven, the Leiden law professor who acquired fame between 1901 and 1933 for his elaborate and detailed description and analysis of  the laws of  the Netherlands-Indies as well as for his impressive contributions to public international law. 

The Van Vollenhoven Lecture 2011 was organized by the Van Vollehoven Institute for Law, Govenance, and Development, The Center for International Legal Cooperation (CILC) and the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies.
