The year 2021 was the second year of the Covid crisis, with two lockdowns and many uncertainties. Almost all members of our research group had Covid at some point in the year. It was difficult to plan seminars and contact with international colleagues could only be maintained through digital means. The lack of ‘live’ human contact has affected us all.
Despite the difficult circumstances research and education progressed as best as possible. In this Yearbook you will find some fascinating examples of what was done in 2021, not only by ourselves, but also by our international colleagues. Professor Michael Rowlands (University College London) and Professor Graeme Were (University of Bristol) participated in some of our seminars and contributed to this Yearbook. We also have inclusions from our Leiden based scholars who wrote papers based on their ongoing research. Furthermore, you will find information on seminars that MCS organized and/or supported.
All in all, this Yearbook is again a good reflection of what the Interdisciplinary Research Group ‘Museums, Collections and Society’ stands for.
