The volume is based on a conference held at the International Institute for Social History in May 2014. It not only focuses on social movements from the 1980s that have received due attention in the past, but explicitly takes into account cases from Eastern and Southern Europe. Furthermore, the focus of the volume is not merely political, but rather on the connections between youth, subculture and social movements.
The result of this effort is the first historical collection with a transnational and interdisciplinary perspective on youth, youth revolts and social movements in the 1980s, focusing on both Eastern and Western Europe.
An overview of all the chapters and the full introduction can be read via the Palgrave website.
