Meet our new NVIC/NINO PhD student: Andrés Martín García de la Cruz

We are thrilled to introduce our new PhD student: Andrés Martín García de la Cruz

Andrés will join us for 4 years to work on his research project titled “In the Centre of Egyptology: Cairo and the Role and History of the Foreign Archaeological Institutes in Egypt”, supervised by prof. Olaf Kaper and dr. Marleen De Meyer. He completed his MA in Archaeology and Heritage at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2021, and his rMA in Egyptology at Leiden University in 2024. He was a member of the organisation committee of the XIIIth International Congress of Egyptologists (ICE 2023), held in Leiden 6-11 August 2023, and he has worked on NINO’s publications archive in recent years.

More exciting news: as of this year, this PhD position is co-financed by NINO in an effort to strengthen the ties between the PhD student and Leiden’s excellent Egyptological facilities. The co-funding of the joint NVIC/NINO scholarship consists of a monthly contribution and a travel allowance, facilitating research trips by the PhD student from Cairo to Leiden.

We are delighted that Andrés joins our NVIC team and wish him a fruitful and productive time in Cairo!
