Debating Europe and Georgia with the Georgian Minister
The Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maia Panjikidze will be paying a lightning visit to Leiden University on 26 March. She will give a lecture and take part in a debate on the theme of 'European perspective – The Georgian case'. All are welcome.
Georgia and the European Union
Dr Panjikidze will talk about the relations between Georgia and the European Union. What opportunities are there for further co-operation under the new regime? How does Georgia see its relation with Russia and other neighbouring countries against this background?
The lecture will take place in the context of the collaboration between Leiden University and Tbilisi State University (TSU). This collaboration has led to the installation of the Visiting Professorial Chair in Georgian Languages, Culture and Society in Leiden, sponsored by the TSU.

The meeteing will start with a brief introduction by Georgian Ambassador Shota Gvineria, followed by a debate with the audience.

2013 Netherlands-Russia Year
In 2013 marks the 100 year anniversary of the introduction of Slavic Studies in Leiden, under Nicolaas van Wijk. An alumni day is also planned. A group has been created on Facebook to make it easier to keep in contact with alumni of Russian Studies: Russisch Leiden. All those who have been involved with our programmes, that is Slavic Languages and Cultures, Russian Studies, East European Law, Russian German, whether or not they have graduated in these subjects, are invited to join the group.
