Daniel Peat appointed as Secretary-General of ESIL
At its recent Annual Conference in Berlin, the European Society of International Law (ESIL) appointed Daniel Peat, Assistant Professor at the Grotius Centre, as its next Secretary-General.
ESIL is a dynamic network of researchers, scholars and practitioners in the field of international law. The Society’s goals are to encourage the study of international law, to foster inquiry, discussion and innovation in international law, and to promote a greater understanding of the role of international law in the world today.
Elected to the ESIL Board in 2022, Daniel has contributed to a wide range of activities for the Society, including reforming its internal governance, coordinating its 22 Interest Groups, managing the allocation of travel and carers’ grants, and serving on programme committees for Annual Conferences and Research Fora.
In his new role as Secretary-General, Daniel will join ESIL’s Executive Committee, which oversees the Society’s day-to-day operations. He will work with fellow Committee members to expand ESIL’s year-round events, increase practitioner engagement, and strengthen ties with regional and national societies of international law around the world.
ESIL’s membership now stands at its highest level since the Society was founded in 2001.
