European regional round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition
A team of students from the Advanced LL.M. in Air and Space Law represented Leiden University at the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. The European regional rounds of the competition took place at the headquarters of the European Space Agency in Paris, France from 1 to 3 April 2025 and were organised by the European Centre for Space Law.

Judges included space law experts from international organisations, law firms, industry, and academia. Brent Camps, Maria del Mar Carrillo Castro, and Avisha Pawar formed the team that was coached by Dr Dimitra Stefoudi and Dr P. J. Blount (Durham University). The case concerned the legality of space activities in conflict. We are proud of their dedication and achievements and look forward to their continued success in future competitions.
The competition is named after Manfred Lachs, a Polish diplomat and jurist, who served as Judge of the International Court of Justice. It is organised by the International Institute of Space Law across five regions, namely North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia Pacific. The winner of each regional round competes during the World Finals that are held during the International Astronautical Congress and are judged by judges of the International Court of Justice. The team of the University of Luxembourg was the winner of this year’s European regional round.
