Vasiliki Kosta speaks at the ‘Symposium Academic Freedom: Opportunities and Challenges’ at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Vasiliki Kosta spoke on “Legal Underpinnings of Academic Freedom’ at the ‘Symposium Academic Freedom: Opportunities and Challenges’ taking place on 14 May 2024 at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

The Symposium was organised by the Faculty Board of Humanities and chaired by Jeroen de Ridder. Other speakers included Koen Lemaire, who spoke on ‘climate protests and academic freedom’ and Ad Verbrugge who spoke on academic freedom during the Covid crisis.

The symposium is meant to start a faculty-wide conversation about academic freedom: what it is, what rights and opportunities it gives to researchers and teachers, and what its limits are. It is the first step in a reflection process that the Faculty Board wants to initiate in order to formulate a set of guidelines and best practices that protect and foster academic freedom in the Faculty of Humanities.
