Jasper Knoester reappointed as Dean of the Faculty of Science

Prof. Dr. Jasper Knoester has been reappointed by the Executive Board of Leiden University as Dean of the Faculty of Science. His second term will run until 1 January 2030. Knoester’s reappointment has broad support within the faculty. His approachable leadership style and people-focused approach have made a significant contribution to the faculty’s development in recent years.

Rector Magnificus Hester Bijl is delighted with the reappointment. ‘With his knowledge, administrative experience, and enthusiasm, Jasper has a great ability to connect with many people on the ground in our wonderful science faculty. The faculty’s appreciation and support for Jasper have also played an important role in his reappointment. In addition, he makes a valuable contribution to our team of deans and maintains many strong connections with external partners.’

Jasper Knoester: “I am very pleased with this second term as dean and with the confidence that the faculty and the Executive Board have placed in me, and more broadly in the facultyboard. Since my appointment in 2022, I have come to appreciate what a fantastic faculty this is, full of talented, successful, and driven people with whom it is a pleasure to work. We have achieved a great deal in recent years. I am particularly proud of the strategy we have developed together and the way we are all working to implement it. In the coming period, we will face significant challenges, but I believe in our collective strength and have every confidence that we will achieve great things together, even in difficult times.”

Vice-Dean Bart de Smit and Director of Operations Suzanne van der Pluijm are pleased that the faculty board can continue in its current composition. ‘We complement each other well and work together seamlessly. This continuity allows us to maintain the course set by Jasper in recent years, providing stability in these turbulent times.’
