Christa Tobler participant in a fireside chat on the relationship between Switzerland and the EU

This year's 'Braunwald Inferno' event, a mixture of winter sports (including an early morning ski race) and political event, took place in the Glarus mountain village of Braunwald Glarus from 17 to 19 January 2025 in perfect winter conditions.

The evening programme on Saturday included a fireside chat on the topic of 'Switzerland in Europe', led by Nicola Forster (president and co-founder of the Staatslabor). The participants were Monika Rühl (Director of Economiesuisse, the largest umbrella organisation of the Swiss economy), Anna-Lina Müller (diplomatic assistant at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA), Michael Hermann (Head of the Sotomo research institute) and Christa Tobler.

The main topic was the outcome of the negotiations between Switzerland and the EU on the so-called package approach to supplement some existing agreements in the institutional area, the conclusion of three new agreements and other topics such as research cooperation. The discussion on the podium was followed by a lively discussion with the audience and then continued discussion over a joint fondue dinner. The Braunwald Inferno event was attended by personalities from the Swiss Federal Administration, Swiss and EU diplomacy, think tanks, companies and national, cantonal and local politics, among others.
