Dr Tanja Masson-Zwaan, assistant professor at the International Institute of Air and Space Law, recently visited four universities and a research institute in China. During her visit to Wuhan University, Masson-Zwaan was appointed as an adjunct professor. She was handed a certificate by Professor Xiao Yongping, Dean of the School of Law.
Masson-Zwaan addressed several topical space law subjects during her visit. She lectured on the sustainable use of outer space at China Institute of Space Law (CISL) in Beijing and at Wuhan University. Moot court skills were discussed during a panel at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL, Beijing), and a lecture on the implementation of international space law in national space legislation was given at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan. Lastly, during her visit to the East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL, Shanghai), which had visited Leiden Law School with an official delegation last September, students learned about the governance of space resource activities. She was impressed by the progress of the Chinese space programme during her visit to the Deep Space Exploration Lab (DSEL) in Hefei.
Masson-Zwaan reunited with alumni who graduated from the Advanced Master's programme in Air and Space Law between 2008 and 2024 and had meetings with officials at the universities she visited. Throughout her visit, she experienced the strong motivation of Chinese students and their professors’ commitment to space law education, and she looks forward to exploring future academic cooperation in space law and policy.
