Five stars once again for the LUC bachelor Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges: ‘Incredibly proud’

For the twelfth consecutive year, Leiden University College The Hague has been awarded the 'Top Programme' quality label by the Keuzegids Universiteiten 2025. With an impressive overall score of 89 out of 100 points, the Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges (BA/BSc) programme has earned five stars.

Leiden University College in The Hague has been a fixture for twelve years as a top programme in the Netherlands. Students highly value the welcoming atmosphere that allows them to feel (safely) themselves, the academic and teaching quality of the staff, and the study materials and overall level of the programme.

The bachelor's programme in Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges is an international course taught entirely in English. Students from the Netherlands, Europe, and around the world come together during this programme to tackle global challenges.

The list of top programmes was published on 19 December. The scores are partly based on student evaluations from the annual National Student Survey (NSE). The guide also includes information on student enrolment, transfer opportunities, and labour market prospects for the various programmes.

Dean of LUC, Giles Scott-Smith, is incredibly proud:

‘For the twelfth consecutive year, Leiden University College has been rated as outstanding. The message is crystal clear – we provide top-quality education in English and make the most of our international classroom to bring out the best in our Dutch and non-Dutch students. Many of our graduates continue with a master’s programme at a Dutch university, and many secure jobs in the labour market here. In short: an English-taught bachelor’s degree that meets the needs of our economy and society.’

Maarja Beerkens, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, congratulates LUC on this fantastic news:

"With LUC approaching its 15th anniversary, it’s wonderful to see what can be achieved through creativity, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to student learning and well-being. We congratulate LUC on this accomplishment and are incredibly proud. We look forward to collaborating on their future successes and a prosperous future. Of course, we also extend our congratulations to the other five Top Programmes at Leiden University."

Hanne Cuyckens, Educational Director and Assistant Professor of International Law at Leiden University College:

"I am very proud of our programme and would like to extend my heartfelt compliments to all our passionate lecturers and dedicated support staff, who ensure the quality of our programme year after year."
