Inspiring book review: The Story of Constitutions
On 8 October, an inspiring session was held at the KOG Building. The session focused on the award-winning book entitled 'The Story of Constitutions' by Professor Wim Voermans, recently published by Cambridge University Press. The event attracted a diverse audience comprising both colleagues and students and facilitated an engaging discussion about constitutional law and the challenges facing democracy and constitutional stability.
The speakers highlighted various aspects of the book, such as its innovative use of empirical research in constitutional law. Topics explored included democratic erosion and whether and how the narrative told by a constitution can be adapted. The role of the judicial power in this narrative was also discussed.
Jaroslaw Kantorowicz, Jorieke Manenschijn, Max Vetzo, Floris Mansvelt Beck and Lotte van den Bosch made profound contributions, which formed the foundation for successful dialogue with Professor Voermans. The session was moderated by Luisa Pinto e Netto.
The event was supported by the research programme entitled 'The Legitimacy and Effectiveness of Law & Governance in a World of Multilevel Jurisdictions'. The session was followed by an informal drinks reception.
