'A Changing Europe in a Changing World' conference
The annual meeting of the European Group of Public Law (EGPL) took place on 13 and 14 September 2024 in Legrena, Greece.
The theme of this year's conference was ‘A Changing Europe in a Changing World’. Particular attention was paid to the rule of law, which is currently under pressure in a number of countries.
During the conference Annemarie Drahmann, Associate Professor at the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law, discussed the importance of access to government information for democratic states under the rule of law. In her presentation, she raised the interesting proposition of whether the time has come for a European directive to be adopted to secure the right to public sector information. This led to a lively discussion among academics who had travelled to attend the conference from all over Europe.
The EGPL is part of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO). The EPLO is an international organisation dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge in the area of public law, including national, comparative and European public law, human rights law and environmental law.
The EGPL conference brought together academics, judges and lawyers from many European countries. Besides Annemarie Drahmann, PhD candidate Demy Jongkind, from the same department at Leiden Law School, was also present.
