Mohammed Raiz Shaffique attends Summer School on Neurorehabilitation 2024
Mohammed Raiz Shaffique, PhD candidate at eLaw and member of the European Research Council funded project on law and robotics, Safe & Sound, attended the Summer School on Neurorehabilitation (SSNR 2024) in Baiona (Spain) between 16 and 21 June.
The programme of the summer school included plenary lectures and workshops on topics including rehabilitation robotics and lower-limb exoskeletons. These areas are closely connected to Raiz’s ongoing research on physical assistant robots.
Mohammed also presented the extended abstract, which he co-authored with Dr Eduard Fosch-Villaronga (Associate Professor at eLaw) and was accepted for the summer school. He presented the preliminary results of an investigation entitled ‘What are physical assistant robots?’ and discussed the impact of a lack of clarity in law and literature regarding this category of robots.
He also explained to the summer school participants how the Safe & Sound project aims to use scientific methods to generate data relevant for recommending policy changes in the sphere of robotics and how his current research contributes to that. As one of the few legal academics present at the summer school, Mohammed's participation and involvement added to the diversity of academic discourse at the SSNR 2024.
