Ben Van Rompuy speaks at Association of European Competition Law Judges annual meeting
Ben Van Rompuy participated as an invited expert in the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Association of European Competition Law Judges (AECLJ), which took place in Berlin between 30 May and 1 June 2024. The event was co-organised by the European Commission.
The primary goal of the AECLJ is to create a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences in competition law among judges across the European Union and other areas of Europe. One aspect of the AECLJ's work is hosting an annual conference to discuss pressing issues and address judges’ concerns.
The theme of this year’s annual meeting was 'Sports, Arbitration and Competition Law'.
The meeting kicked off with a panel discussion on the far-reaching implications of three recent landmark judgments issued by the Court of Justice of the European Union (European Superleague, ISU, and Royal Antwerp) for EU competition law and its application to sports governance. Moderated by Anne-Marie Witters, President of the Market Court in Brussels, the panel featured Ben Van Rompuy alongside Jean-François Bellis (partner at Van Bael & Bellis) and Gero Meessen (member of the Legal Service of the European Commission).
