Leiden University team European runner-up in Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court competition
The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court competition was held in Vienna between 8 and 12 April 2024. This event was organised by the European Centre for Space Law in collaboration with the University of Vienna. The team comprised David Eagleson, Solène Flambeaux and Aleksandra Spyra, current students of the Advanced LL.M. in Air and Space Law. They were coached by Dimitra Stefoudi (IIASL) and Dr PJ Blount (Cardiff University).
The finals of the European Round took place at the Austrian Constitutional Court. The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition is organised by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) across five regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, North America and Europe. The winning team from each regional round competes in the World Finals, held during the International Astronautical Congress and judged by sitting members of the International Court of Justice. The competition focuses on space law and public international law. This year’s case concerned protecting the dark and quiet skies and freedom of scientific investigation. The institute is very proud of the students who participated. Congratulations on your excellent performance!
