VvA meeting to focus on transnational labour law
At the meeting of the Dutch Employment Law Association (Vereniging voor Arbeidsrecht, VvA) on 12 March 2024, which Paul van der Heijden moderated as chair, Yvonne Erkens, Daan van Thiel and Bas Rombouts (Tilburg University) outlined the impact of the shift from soft law to hard law within the context of transnational labour law.
The meeting was prompted by an article written by Emeritus Professor of International Labour Law Paul van der Heijden in collaboration with Yvonne Erkens (Associate Professor in the Department of Labour Law and Social Security) and Daan van Thiel (external PhD candidate in the Department of Labour Law and Social Security) on this topic in Dutch weekly law journal Nederlands Juristenblad.
During the subsequent panel discussion, there was a lively debate between Martine Bosman (Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands, SER) and Rik van Steenbergen (Netherlands Trade Union Confederation, FNV) and members of the audience on the impact of this shift on labour law practice. By the end, it was clear for both online and live participants in the well-attended meeting that neither international nor transnational labour law are distant concepts. Rather, they have far-reaching implications for national labour law and business practices in the Netherlands.
