The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Pacific Alliance reaffirm cooperation between the two regional blocs
The ASEAN community formed by Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, and The Pacific Alliance formed by Chile, Colombia, México and Perú adopted the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Work Plan (2021-2025) back in 2021.
This year, on 31 October 2023, the annual meeting between the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN and the National Coordinators of the Pacific Alliance took place.
The implementation of the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Work Plan (2021-2025) was assessed, focusing on means to enhance collaboration between the two regional blocs. Special attention was given to foster cooperation on Gender Equality, Student Mobility, Digital Economy, Environment, Culture and Education.
The parties consented to revise the ASEAN-Pacific Alliance Framework for Cooperation to try to better institutionalise the engagement between the CRP and the National Coordinators of the Pacific Alliance. They also expressed keen interest in the resumption of Ministerial Meetings between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance in 2024 and the subsequent years.
