Europa Institute co-organises International Conference on Schengen in Brussels
On 27 and 28 June 2023, an extensive conference was held on the past and future of Europe’s free travel area: the Schengen zone. The Europa Institute, represented by Jorrit Rijpma, joined forces with the Odysseus Network of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Konstanz University, and the Royal Egmont Foundation.
At the Egmont Palace in Brussels some of the key actors who laid the foundations for Schengen met with academics and policy makers currently working to maintain and strengthen the Schengen zone.
Jorrit Rijpma specifically addressed the topic of Schengen governance, which aims to foster high-level political dialogue on Schengen matters, as well as better implementation of the Schengen rules by the Member States.
The conference programme is available here.
