Inspiring pre VSR conference PhD day organised by VSR, ELS Academy & KU Leuven
On 9 March, the first edition of the PhD preconference day, for and by PhDs, took place at KU Leuven. This day was organised by the VSR, ELS Academy and the KU Leuven.
The preconference day preceded the VSR Conference, which took place on 10 and 11 March. The day revolved around the research method of interviewing and the ethical aspects thereof, which were explored through keynote presentations and various workshops. Around 40 PhD students from the Netherlands and Belgium – all embarking on empirical legal research projects – attended the PhD day.
Lab member Kimia Heidary was part of the organising committee and also gave a workshop together with Helen Pluut (director of the ELS Academy) on how to go from research question to topic list. Danielle Chevalier of the Van Vollenhoven Institute (chairman of VSR) and postdoc Lisa Ansems of Institutions for Conflict Resolution gave a workshop together on the step from data analyses to conclusions. The day was concluded with a festive gathering in the beautiful city centre of Leuven. All in all, it was a wonderful and inspiring day and we are very excited to see this community of ELS scholars growing so fast!
