LLX virtual roundtable on the Social Summit and the European Pillar of Social Rights
Organised jointly by the Europa Institute, Leiden University and the Lisbon Centre for Research in Public Law, University of Lisbon on 31 May 2021.
Following the well-established format of the Leiden Law Exchange, the roundtable brought together practitioners and academics to engage in an open discussion under the Chatham House Rule.
The participants discussed the outcomes of the Social Summit organised by the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU on 7 May 2021 in Porto and reflected upon the summit’s contribution to the advancement of the Social Rights Pillar.
Three distinguished speakers provided a short introduction from their respective field of expertise, after which the floor was opened for discussion: keynote speaker Mariana Vieira da Silva, Minister of State and of the Presidency, Portuguese Government, and commentators Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, Member of the European Parliament, Catherine Barnard, Professor at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Law; Ana Maria Guerra Martins, Judge at the ECtHR and Professor at the University of Lisbon School of Law. The discussion was chaired by Professor Christa Tobler.
