Christa Tobler on the system of dynamic adaptation of EEA law
On 29 October 2020, the Europa Institute Zurich organized a conference entitled «1. Zürcher Europarechtstag: Europäische Integration, Drittstaaten und (direkte) Demokratie» (1st Zurich European Law Day: European integration, third countries and (direct) democracy
The conference comprised three thematic blocks: on the EU states, the EEA/EFTA states and Switzerland, respectively. The second block dealt with the law of the European Economic Area (EEA), which extends important parts of EU law to Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. In this block, Christa Tobler gave a presentation on the system of so-called dynamic adaptation of EEA law in the situation where the EU adopts new EU law that is relevant for the European Economic Area. A similar system is currently under discussion in relation to some sectoral agreements between the EU and Switzerland. The conference was held in hybrid form, online and offline.
