Paul van der Heijden appointed on arbitration panel USMCA in the United States
USMCA (North American Free Trade Agreement) is the successor to NAFTA – a free trade zone covering Canada, the United States and Mexico. This Agreement includes a new procedure to ensure compliance with fundamental labour rights.
Paul van der Heijden, Professor emeritus International Labour Law and former Rector Magnificus of Leiden University has been appointed as a member on this panel. If a dispute arises between parties to the Agreement concerning a violation of these rights and the parties are unable to resolve the dispute, the panel will take action. Besides nationals of the State parties to the Agreement, non-nationals are also appointed on the basis of their expertise and reputation.
