Prizes for students

Ups and downs for students from year 12 and/or vwo 6 who are selected for the Academic Challenge and the Dutch version of this challenge, the ‘Wetenschapscongres voor vwo’.

Academic challenges for students

The good news for these students was that Leiden University selected them to present their extended essay or profielwerkstuk during the academic challenges on June 12 and 18. They were already raring to get on stage and present their research and inspire the audience, existing of students from year 10/11 or vwo 4/5 that are about to write their extended essays. At the same time they would compete before a panel of judges, consisting out of professional researchers, to win the prize for best research presentation.

Cancelled

Unfortunately the good news soon was overshadowed by the announcement that both the Academic Challenge and the Wetenschapscongres voor vwo were cancelled, due to the current coronavirus pandemic. Both challenges are therefore postponed until 2021.

Rewards

However, Leiden University decided to reward these selected students anyway by sending them the book tokens for 200 euros that students normally receive after presenting their research on stage.
