Peter Stevenhagen scientific director Mathematical Institute
Professor of number theory Peter Stevenhagen has been appointed to up the position of scientific director of the Mathematical Institute of Leiden University on 15 September. In this position he is the successor of Aad van der Vaart, who led the institute for the last four years.
The position is not new to Stevenhagen: between 2007 and 2015 he was also scientific director of the Mathematical Insttute. Since 2001 he has been Professor of Mathematics, in particular algebra and number theory at Leiden University. He is also director of the European ALGANT programme, in which the Mathematical Institute together with French, German and Italian partners has been offering a two-year master's degree in algebra, geometry and number theory since 2005.
