Computer science students second-best in national hacking competition

On September 7, the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science participated with a team of six students in the first edition of the Capture the Flag event 'Challenge the Cyber'. They were placed second in this national hacking competition for students.

Neck-and-neck race

A total of 13 teams competed for the title. ‘Until the very last moment, we were very close to the number one. And with almost twice as many points as the number three, we were far ahead of the rest. An enormous achievement!,' says Assistant Professor Erik van der Kouwe, who supervised the students.

Hacking a spaceship

The challenge took place on the way to Mars. Fifteen crucial parts of a spaceship had gone offline. The students had to hack these parts to make the spaceship fly again. The team that was the first to arrive on Mars with an intact spaceship won.
