Students film Leiden as a student city
What makes Leiden the best student city in the Netherlands? The winners of the Student & City film competition, Midas Rooijakkers, Niels Rokebrand and Luka Standing, brought into focus the diverse nature of student life in Leiden. Their professional video won them the first prize of 1,250 euros.
This year was the fourth edition of the Student & City film competition, which is the initiative of Plaatselijke Kamer van Verenigingen (the umbrella organisation of student associations), Leiden Marketing, the Municipality of Leiden and Leiden University. Students from Leiden University and Leiden University of Applied Sciences could film their take on Leiden as a student city. This year’s theme was ‘Leiden Inside Out’: turn the city inside out and let the human side of the city take centre stage.
The final was held in Trianon cinema on 3 July, with the jury announcing the three winning films. First prize went to Midas Rooijakkers, Niels Rokebrand and Luka Standing for giving the leading role to diversity in Leiden – and doing so in such a professional way. Second prize went to Charlotte Arnoldy and Celine Schaar for their creative, personal portrait of what Leiden means to them. Third prize went to Jacco Gouw for his film ‘Little Leiden,’ which portrays Leiden as a miniature town.
