Last week, Professor of Law and Society Maartje van der Woude (Van Vollenhoven Institute) gave a lecture at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome.
Maartje van der Woude's lecture at the Pontifical Ubaniana University, entitled The Structural Nature of European Inhospitality: Radical Empathy instead of Hospitality, was part of a three-day seminar organized by the Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI) in collaboration with the Norwegian Institute in Rome and the research group Nordic Hospitalities in the Context of Migration (NORDHOST) of which van der Woude is an active member. The theme of the seminar was "Contested Humanities: A Dialogue on Ecumenical Spaces of Hospitality in Europe". The seminar aimed to bring together academics, politicians and leading spiritual leaders to discuss the challenges of migration and mobility experienced in Europe.
