Mark Leiser delivers report to Scottish Government’s Consultation
Dr Mark Leiser, Assistant Professor in Law and Digital Technologies, provided answers to the Scottish Government’s Consultation on Enhanced Oversight of Biometric Data for Justice and Community Safety Purposes.
The use of biometric data in police investigations is particularly controversial, and could infringe fundamental rights if not administered properly. The consultation sought to address how to regulate in the light of changing biometric technologies and the collection, use, and retention of biometric data for policing purposes. Dr Leiser’s submissions and report are available. The report also contains several recommendations for how to approach the collection of biometric data from children and young people.
