LUCIS Annual Conference brings Shiʿi studies to the forefront
On 14 and 15 November, the LUCIS Annual Conference takes place in Leiden. Scholars from diverse backgrounds will come together to share their research on all branches of Shiʿi Islam.
This year’s LUCIS conference Approaching Shiʿi Islam in the Academy is perhaps the first conference in the Netherlands to focus specifically on the academic study of Shii Islam. By choosing this focus LUCIS aims to illuminate the dangers of assuming that to study Islam means studying Sunni Islam. The conference brings together scholars of law, society, history, anthropology, international studies and religious studies, as well as activists working with communities in the Netherlands. In addition, the conference will be followed by a workshop allowing early-career scholars to present and discuss work in progress more informally.
