Jorrit Rijpma visits Brussels with the students of the LDE Master Governance of Migration and Diversity
On November 16th 2018 Jorrit Rijpma visited the European Parliament and the European Commission with students of the LDE Master on the Governance of Migration and Diversity.
The visit took place within the framework of the Lecture Series on European Migration and Asylum Law that is taught within the framework of Rijpma's Jean Monnet Chair on Mobility and Security in Europe.
At the European Parliament the students were addressed by Sarah Chander (European Network Against Racism), Thomas Huddleston (Migration Policy Group) and Leonhard den Hertog (Policy Advisor to MEP Sophie in ‘t Veld).
At the European Commission, students attended lectures by Commission officials from three different Directorates General: DG Devco, DG Justice and DG Home. They spoke on questions of development aid and migration management, integration, non-discrimination and diversity, and the management of the Schengen borders.
All speakers provided the students with valuable insights in the political arena within which decisions on migration, asylum and non-discrimination are discussed and decided upon.
