Call for participation: KABK Design / Research Club #2

You are warmly invited to join us for the second meeting of the KABK Design / Research Club, a forum for researchers from the KABK and Leiden University who are conducting research in, about, or through design-related disciplines.

The meeting will be introduced and convened by design historian, writer and educator Alice Twemlow, who leads the Design Lectorate at the KABK and is an Associate Professor at Leiden University’s Academy of Creative and Performing Arts (ACPA).

DATE: Friday November 2, 2018
TIME: 13:00 – 17:00 (followed by drinks)
VENUE: Royal Academy of Art (KABK) The Hague

FOR WHOM: 
Tutors, heads, (research) staff, workshop supervisors and PhD candidates from the KABK and Leiden University involved in research in and through design-related disciplines.

DEADLINE 2 (only for new participants)
Presentation abstracts (max. 200 words + 1 image) due by Friday October 12, 2018.

During the first hour of the meeting, new club participants will have the opportunity to make a short presentation of a current research project.

Then we will dive into some general discussion about research questions and practice-based research methods, followed by smaller conversation groups around the following themes:

1. Initiating a new research project (intended for early-stage researchers)

2. Material-, workshop-, and lab-based research through design: methods and approaches

3. Scholarly research into design as subject matter: methods and approaches

You are welcome to attend whether or not you attended the first meeting, which took place in June 2018. But please note that there is no audience at Design / Research Club. All members are participants!
