ICCL studenten op studiereis naar Brussel
On Thursday and Friday, 1 and 2 March 2018, ICCL students and staff enjoyed a study trip to Brussels, including visits to the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the European Commission and top law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.
First we visited the Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the European Union where we listened to an insider’s view of the PR by Counselor Emile Schmieman. Afterwards Pedro Roggeveen and Jan Willem Visser, both advisers European Affairs at VNO-NCW (The Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers) and MKB Netherlands (the Royal Association of Dutch Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) talked about the role and activities of VNO-NCW in Brussels.
On the second day, we visited the European Commission and enjoyed a lively presentation by Tamsin Rose of the Directorate-General Communication on some of the legal issues within the European Union. This was followed by a presentation from Folkert Wilman who informed the students about his work at the Legal Service of the European Commission.
The trip was concluded by a lively, interactive meeting with Martijn Snoep, Partner/Lawyer at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek. Together with colleagues he answered all the questions our students had about working as an international lawyer. The students were challenged to apply for ‘The Brewery’; an innovative training programme for English-speaking graduates looking for a career as a global lawyer!
ICCL alumnus Samuel Delcominette, now working as a lawyer at Lydian in Brussels, also joined us during the trip and shared his valuable experiences with the students and staff.
Thanks to all who contributed to making the 2017-2018 Brussels trip a special experience!
