LUC The Hague Congratulates the Class of 2017 ½!
Last Wednesday February 7th, LUC The Hague celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2017 ½. Around 250 guests joined the ceremony at Leiden University’s Wijnhaven building, followed by a festive reception at LUC The Hague in honour of the 34 graduates.
With short speeches, introducing the major and the graduating students, the major convenors invited the graduands forward to receive their diploma from the dean. Graduates Ayla Schenk (Major: World Politics), Tom Prendergast (Major: World Politics) and Anne-Juul Welsink (Major: Governance, Economics and Development) received a Thesis of Merit award for outstanding undergraduate research.
The ceremony was filled with applauses, music and laughs. First-year students Annelot Weusten and Laurie Bolling performed a version of K.T. Tunstall’s ‘Suddenly I See’, re-written for the occasion. Class representative, Mohammed El Baroudi, shared his LUC experiences in a funny and relatable speech and LUC alumn, Felipe van de Kerkhof (Class of 2016) welcomed the graduates to Evolucio, LUC’s alumni community. After this graduation, the number of graduates exceeds the number of current LUC students, a great indication of how much LUC has grown through the years. Through Evolucio, the Class of 2017 ½ joins a global network of LUC alumni.
Congratulations Class of 2017 ½!
