New academic year, new composition University Council
The University Council has started this academic year in a new composition. Last June, elections were held for the student faction. Two students returned and six new student members and one new staff member were welcomed in early September.

September was characterized by introduction meetings, education, the opening of the academic year and the council's organizational meeting. During the latter meeting, Pieter Krol was re-elected as chairperson of the university council and the composition of several committees was determined.
About the University Council
The University Council is a democratically elected participation body in which students and staff of the University are represented. The Council keeps a watchful eye on the Executive Board, issues solicited or unsolicited advice and has a say in important decisions. The Council members continuously keep on collecting ideas and experiences of students and staff. Read more here.
University Council 2016-2017
In August the University Council celebrated the end of the academic year with the Executive Board and said goodbye to leaving council members. In the 2016-2017 academic year, many subjects were reviewed by the council. Some items on the agenda are reviewed yearly, such as the university budget, the framework memorandum and the annual accounts. The council also reviews a broad spectrum of othe subjects. Examples from last year are: sustainability issues, diversity policies, and limitations in the capacity of educational programmes. Curious to find out how the University Council operates during its meetings? University Council meetings are usually public and generally take place on a Monday afternoon from 15.00 to 17.00 hrs at Gravensteen (room 111, Pieterskerkhof 6, Leiden). The next council meeting will take place on 9 October. The meetings between the Executive Board and the University Council are public and are held on a Monday afternoon from 15.30 to 17.30 hrs.
