Tap water stations to reduce plastic waste
Leiden University will install over 30 tap water stations in the autumn of 2017 at the various University buildings. The first is already in use.
Enter Plexus and you will immediately see it in the waiting room: the new tap water station. The stylish tap is one of 35 that Leiden University will be installing in the coming months. Students and staff can fill reusable bottles at these stations.
Leiden University Green Office
The water stations are the initiative of the Leiden University Green Office (LUGO), the student organisation that champions sustainability at Leiden University. They asked Join the Pipe to install the stations in order to reduce the use of disposable plastic water bottles.
Opening academic year
The news was announced at the opening of the academic year on 4 September, the main focus of which was sustainability. In a few months’ time, almost all University buildings will have a tap water station, from Kamerlingh Onnes to the Observatory and Gorlaeus to the University Sport Centre.
