Just Peace festival: celebrate freedom in The Hague
The Just Peace festival is coming up shortly. From 21 to 24 September we will be celebrating peace in The Hague with some inspiring HagueTalks, the Peace in the Park festival and the annual Peace Run.
The theme of the Just Peace festival is peace and justice. The festival starts appropriately enough on 21 September, the International Day of Peace. A number of scholars from Leiden University will share their knowledge of these subjects.
Peace Run
The Peace Run is one of the core events on the Just Peace festival programme. The 5th Peace Run will take place on Sunday 24 September, starting and ending at the President Kennedylaan. The course of the Peace Run, with different distances for all age groups, will take thousands of participants past some of The Hague's historic sights. Leiden University is sponsoring a limited number of students and employees to take part. The proceeds from the Peace Run will go to UNICEF.
The Leiden University team is now fully booked! But you can still register for the Peace Run as an individual participant: www.vredesloopdenhaag.nl
HagueTalks
The Just Peace festival will open on Thursday 21 September with a series of inspiring HagueTalks in the Peace Palace. During this instructive and inspiring evening, for students and other young people, speakers and artists will offer their experiences, expertise and visions in dialogues for peace. And as often happens with inspiration, there may be some surprises. Psychologist Mariska Kret will talk about her research on peace-loving bonobos: 'These animals are closely related to humans but have a much friendlier disposition. Why is that? And can we humans maybe learn something from bonobos?'

The Just Peace festival will end on Sunday 24 September with the Peace in the Park festival. Visitors can join workshops on movement, art, music and meditation to raise their awareness of their personal connection with Peace. It may be an experience that will inspire visitors to make just that small change that will make a big difference in their life and in that of others.
International city of peace and justice
‘It is fantastic to see that there is so much interest in what The Hague has to offer on this theme,' commented Pauline Krikke, Mayor of The Hague. 'During the Just Peace festival The Hague can really stand out as UN city and as international city of peace and justice.'
The Just Peace festival is an initiative of The Hague United for Peace & Justice foundation in cooperation with diverse institutions, including Unicef, the municipality of The Hague and Leiden University. View the complete programme on the Just Peace website or like the festival's Facebook page.
